In 1969, the manager of the newly formed Holden Dealer Team, Harry Firth, gave Peter Brock his break with an offer to drive at Bathurst, Australia’s most prestigious endurance road race, in a Holden HT Monaro GTS 350.
Des West and co-driver Brock, began the race weekend in 10th position on the starting grid with a qualifying lap time of 2:55.4, 6.5s behind pole sitter Pete Geoghegan in a XW Falcon. The Falcons were much quicker around the Bathurst track when compared to the Monaros, but a incorrect tyre choice ruined their chances of a win.

After 130 laps the race was won by the newly formed Holden Dealer Team with Colin Bond and Tony Roberts. Team mates Peter Brock and Des West finished third in their Holden HT Monaro GTS 350’s. In second position was defending race winners Bruce McPhee and his single-lap co-driver Barry Mulholland driving a Phase 1 Ford Falcon GTHO.

  • A street car a heart, the 43D Monaro retained the front and rear number plates. Bonnet clips were included for extra support to hold down bonnet.
  • The sports hub caps had been removed from the race car, shown here are the steel wheel rims. The car also ran on Michelin XAS rubber.
  • The HT Monaro GTS interior included circular instrument cluster, with tachometer moved to the dashboard. Also featured in the interior is a 4-point roll-cage.
  • The 43D racecar features the houndstooth seat pattern from the road car, the drivers seat included a basic racing harness.
  • The engine bay shows off the 350 V8 engine. The chrome air-cleaner has large openings with visible etch metal mesh.
  • The rear chassis shows off the impressive exhaust system. The dual exhaust system splits into four chrome tipped tail pipes.
  • The front chassis shows the engine sump, exhaust system and working suspension. The front wheels are even linked to the steering wheel.
  • The chassis bears an individually numbered etched metal plate which is the edition number of your model.
